Reading with Kids is a cooperative effort between the Rotary Club of Flemington and local elementary schools, and is designed to encourage children to read. Club members volunteer to read aloud to classes from Kindergarten through Third Grade in the local elementary school district. The teachers recommend several possible reading selections, and the Club member reads a book to the class.
The program is designed to encourage the children to read more, and to allow them to experience the joy and excitement of following a story from start to finish. The program is also valuable because it involves many male club members, and allows the children to interact with male role models in a non-traditional environment. The club members who participate also find it to be a rewarding and satisfying experience. The Reading with Kids program runs weekly, throughout the academic year. About 24 Rotary club members participate in the program, with some members reading more than once.
